- Origin
- Arise from right superior, middle, and inferior lobar bronchi
- Insertion
- Ventilate the 10 distinct bronchopulmonary segments of the right lung (B1 apical, B2 posterior, B3 anterior, B4 lateral, B5 medial, B6 superior, B7 medial basal, B8 anterior basal, B9 lateral basal, B10 posterior basal)
- Function
- Supply discrete anatomical and surgical units with air for gas exchange
- Innervation
- Pulmonary plexus
- Movement & chain
- Airway smooth muscle tone regulation
- Palpation
- Chest auscultation over corresponding right thoracic topography
- Clinical
- The superior segment of the right lower lobe (B6, Nelson's segment) and posterior segment of the upper lobe (B2) are classic sites for aspiration pneumonia and lung abscesses in recumbent patients.
