Ulnar veins (Venae comitantes of ulnar artery)
Venae ulnares
- Origin
- Arise from the medial aspects of the superficial and deep palmar venous arches
- Insertion
- Ascend as paired venae comitantes alongside the ulnar artery to unite with radial veins in forming brachial veins
- Function
- Deep venous drainage of the medial hand, hypothenar eminence, and anterior medial forearm muscles
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor fibers
- Movement & chain
- Augmented by muscular contraction of the forearm flexor compartment
- Palpation
- Not palpable due to deep subfascial course
- Clinical
- Deep vein thrombosis of the distal upper extremity; post-traumatic forearm edema
- Segmental innervation
- Deep forearm venous network
