Upper limb
Palmar venous arches (Superficial and deep)
Arcus venosi palmares (superficialis et profundus)
- Origin
- Formed by the convergence of palmar digital and palmar metacarpal veins
- Insertion
- Drain proximally into radial and ulnar deep veins as well as the superficial forearm venous network
- Function
- Drain deoxygenated blood from the digits, thenar, hypothenar, and midpalmar compartments
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor fibers
- Movement & chain
- Intermittent compression during gripping drives blood proximally toward forearm veins
- Palpation
- Not palpable through palmar aponeurosis
- Clinical
- Engorgement in acute hand trauma, palmar space infections, or upper limb deep vein thrombosis
- Segmental innervation
- Hand venous drainage network
- In clinical practice
- Hand elevation and compression garments are essential postoperatively to optimize venous return
- Region in the model
- Upper limb
