Radial veins (Venae comitantes of radial artery)
Venae radiales
- Origin
- Arise from the deep palmar venous arch
- Insertion
- Ascend as paired venae comitantes alongside the radial artery to join ulnar veins in forming brachial veins
- Function
- Deep venous drainage of the lateral hand, thumb, and radial forearm musculature
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor plexus
- Movement & chain
- Pulsatile compression from the adjacent radial artery facilitates venous return
- Palpation
- Not palpable due to deep investing fascial plane
- Clinical
- Deep vein thrombosis of the forearm; post-traumatic swelling and compartment pressure changes
- Segmental innervation
- Forearm deep venous network
