Upper limb
Cords of brachial plexus (Lateral, medial, posterior)
Fasciculi plexus brachialis (lateralis, medialis, posterior)
- Origin
- Formed in the axilla from the divisions, named according to their anatomical relationship to the second part of the axillary artery
- Insertion
- Terminate into the major terminal nerves: musculocutaneous, median, ulnar, radial, and axillary nerves
- Function
- Organize and route sensory and motor axons to their terminal peripheral nerve destinations
- Innervation
- Complete sensorimotor innervation of upper limb
- Movement & chain
- Encircle the axillary artery deep to pectoralis minor
- Palpation
- Palpable deep in the apex of the axilla during arm abduction
- Clinical
- Infraclavicular plexus injuries, compression beneath pectoralis minor (Wright hyperabduction syndrome)
- Segmental innervation
- C5–T1 spinal levels
- In clinical practice
- Target site for ultrasound-guided infraclavicular brachial plexus block providing reliable anesthesia from mid-arm to hand
- Region in the model
- Upper limb
