- Origin
- Arise from the 3 trunks behind the clavicle: 3 anterior and 3 posterior divisions (6 total)
- Insertion
- Posterior divisions unite to form posterior cord; anterior divisions of upper/middle trunks form lateral cord; anterior division of lower trunk forms medial cord
- Function
- Fundamental anatomical segregation into anterior flexor supply and posterior extensor supply of the limb
- Innervation
- Flexor vs extensor neuromuscular segregation
- Movement & chain
- Traverse the retroclavicular space into the axillary apex
- Palpation
- Not individually palpable behind the middle third of the clavicle
- Clinical
- Susceptible to compression and laceration in severely displaced clavicle fractures
- Segmental innervation
- C5–T1 roots

- Neurovascular assessment is essential before and after surgical fixation of midshaft clavicle fractures
