Trunk vessels (aorta, vena cava, abdominal branches)
Intrarenal arteries
Arteriae intrarenales (lobares, interlobares, arcuatae et interlobulares)
- Origin
- Successive divisions of segmental renal arteries inside the parenchyma
- Insertion
- Interlobar arteries run between renal pyramids, form arcuate arteries at the corticomedullary junction, branching into interlobular (cortical radiate) arteries and afferent arterioles to the glomeruli
- Function
- Drives high-pressure glomerular ultrafiltration and supplies the peritubular capillary and vasa recta networks
- Innervation
- Renal sympathetic fibers regulating arteriolar tone
- Movement & chain
- Renal autoregulation (myogenic and tubuloglomerular feedback mechanisms)
- Palpation
- Not palpated directly
- Clinical
- Hypertensive and diabetic nephrosclerosis; acute tubular necrosis (ATN) induced by ischemic intrarenal hypoperfusion.
- Segmental innervation
- T10-L1 spinal levels
- In clinical practice
- Microalbuminuria screening, ACE inhibitor/ARB titration for renal protective therapy
- Region in the model
- Trunk vessels (aorta, vena cava, abdominal branches)
