Oblique cord of interosseous membrane (Chorda obliqua)
Chorda obliqua membranae interosseae antebrachii
- Origin
- Arises from the lateral border of the ulnar tuberosity
- Insertion
- Passes obliquely inferolaterally to insert into the radius just distal to the radial tuberosity
- Function
- Stabilizes the proximal radioulnar syndesmosis and limits longitudinal displacement of the radius during traction
- Innervation
- Articular/proprioceptive branches from the anterior interosseous nerve
- Movement & chain
- Taut during supination, helps maintain radioulnar alignment
- Palpation
- Not palpable beneath deep proximal forearm musculature
- Clinical
- Critical stabilizer in Essex-Lopresti fracture-dislocations (interosseous membrane rupture and radial head fracture)
- Segmental innervation
- C7–C8 proprioceptive segment
- In clinical practice
- Preserved during proximal forearm reconstructive procedures to maintain axial stability
