Upper limb

Radius

Radius

Origin
Lateral long bone of the forearm (thumb side); articulates with humerus, ulna, and proximal carpal bones (scaphoid and lunate)
Insertion
Insertion site for biceps brachii (radial tuberosity), brachioradialis, pronator teres, and supinator
Function
Rotates around the ulna to produce forearm pronation and supination; forms major part of radiocarpal wrist joint
Innervation
Radial, median, and musculocutaneous nerves
Movement & chain
Pronation, supination, wrist flexion, wrist extension, and radial deviation
Palpation
Radial head palpable below lateral epicondyle; radial styloid process palpable on lateral wrist
Clinical
Colles fracture (dinner-fork deformity in FOOSH falls); Smith fracture; radial head fracture; nursemaid's elbow (subluxation of radial head in young children)
Segmental innervation
C5–T1
In clinical practice
Radial pulse palpation site at the volar distal radius lateral to flexor carpi radialis tendon
Region in the model
Upper limb
