Lower limb
Acetabular labrum
Labrum acetabulare
- Origin
- Horseshoe-shaped bony rim of the acetabulum and transverse acetabular ligament
- Insertion
- Transitions into articular hyaline cartilage and joint capsule
- Function
- Deepens the acetabular socket by 30%, grips the femoral head beyond its equator, and creates a critical fluid seal preserving hydrostatic lubrication
- Innervation
- Nerve to quadratus femoris, obturator nerve, and femoral nerve (rich in sensory/pain receptors)
- Movement & chain
- Compliant seal accommodating hip flexion and rotation
- Palpation
- Intra-articular, non-palpable
- Clinical
- Acetabular labral tear secondary to Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI: Cam/Pincer types); presenting with anterior groin pain, mechanical clicking, and positive FADIR test.
- Segmental innervation
- L2–L4
- In clinical practice
- FADIR and FABER clinical tests, hip dynamic core stabilization, and arthroscopic labral refixation
- Region in the model
- Lower limb
