- What you examine
- Distinguishing between hip and SI problems.
- Procedure
- Supine: flexion, abduction and external rotation of the hip, with the ankle on the opposite knee. Press the knee towards the table while stabilising the opposite pelvis.
- Positive when
- Pain in the groin points towards the hip, pain in the buttock towards the SI joint.
- What the test is worth
- Part of Laslett's cluster for the SI joint; not conclusive on its own.
- Caution
- Always note where the pain is, not just that the test hurts: the location determines the meaning.
