Radial recurrent artery
Arteria recurrens radialis
- Origin
- Arises from the proximal radial artery just below the cubital fossa
- Insertion
- Ascends between brachioradialis and brachialis to anastomose with the radial collateral artery
- Function
- Supplies lateral elbow soft tissues and contributes to the periarticular cubital arterial anastomosis
- Innervation
- Sympathetic perivascular plexus
- Movement & chain
- Accommodates elbow flexion-extension cycles
- Palpation
- Not individually palpable due to overlying muscular coverage
- Clinical
- Provides essential bypass flow during acute brachial artery injury at the elbow
- Segmental innervation
- C5–C7 segments
- In clinical practice
- Must be identified and preserved or ligated during lateral surgical exposures of the radial head
