Radial collateral artery
Arteria collateralis radialis
- Origin
- Anterior terminal branch of the profunda brachii artery
- Insertion
- Descends anterior to the lateral epicondyle to anastomose with the radial recurrent artery
- Function
- Forms the anterolateral component of the periarticular arterial anastomoses of the elbow
- Innervation
- Sympathetic perivascular nerves
- Movement & chain
- Maintains continuous flow during elbow flexion and extension
- Palpation
- Not palpable through lateral humeral musculature
- Clinical
- Crucial collateral channel preserving distal arm perfusion during brachial artery compromise
- Segmental innervation
- C5–C7 segmental levels
- In clinical practice
- Carefully preserved during lateral approaches for distal humeral fracture fixation
