Camera anterior bulbi
- Origin
- Space between the corneal endothelium in front and the iris and pupillary plane behind
- Insertion
- Drains at the iridocorneal angle into the trabecular meshwork and the canal of Schlemm
- Function
- Contains aqueous humour that nourishes the avascular cornea and lens and sets the intraocular pressure (10-21 mmHg)
- Innervation
- Not innervated; surrounding structures sensory via V1
- Movement & chain
- Aqueous flows continuously from the ciliary body through the pupil to the angle
- Palpation
- Estimate depth with oblique light projection; tonometry for pressure; gonioscopy for the angle
- Clinical
- Acute angle-closure glaucoma (red, rock-hard, painful eye with a wide fixed pupil), hyphaema after trauma, hypopyon in endophthalmitis
