- Origin
- Distinct osteofibrous compartment within the flexor retinaculum and the groove of the trapezium bone
- Insertion
- Invests the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) tendon to the base of the second metacarpal
- Function
- Guides and lubricates the primary wrist flexor across the scaphoid and trapezium bones
- Innervation
- Sensory branches of the median nerve
- Movement & chain
- Stressed during repetitive wrist flexion and radial abduction
- Palpation
- Palpable at the distal volar-radial wrist crease just medial to the radial pulse
- Clinical
- FCR tenosynovitis and tendinopathy, often secondary to scaphotrapeziotrapezoid (STT) or thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis
- Segmental innervation
- C6–C7 roots
