Truncus costocervicalis
- Origin
- Arises from the posterior aspect of the second part of the subclavian artery
- Insertion
- Divides into deep cervical artery and supreme intercostal artery
- Function
- Supplies the deep suboccipital/posterior cervical muscles and the first two intercostal spaces
- Innervation
- Sympathetic perivascular nerves
- Movement & chain
- Deep retro-scalene pathway
- Palpation
- Not palpable due to deep cervical location
- Clinical
- Provides essential collateral flow to intercostal spaces in aortic coarctation
- Segmental innervation
- C7–T2 roots

- Carefully preserved during thoracic outlet decompression and scalenectomy
