Upper limb
Transverse humeral ligament and biceps tendon sheath (Brodie's ligament)
Ligamentum humerale transversum (Brodie) et vagina tendinis bicipitis
- Origin
- Greater tubercle of the humerus
- Insertion
- Lesser tubercle of the humerus and intertubercular groove
- Function
- Converts the intertubercular groove into a canal, retaining the long head of the biceps brachii tendon and its synovial sheath
- Innervation
- Axillary nerve (C5–C6)
- Movement & chain
- Stabilizes biceps tendon excursion during shoulder flexion/rotation
- Palpation
- Palpable over anterior bicipital groove during internal/external rotation
- Clinical
- Rupture causes medial dislocation/subluxation of the biceps tendon out of the bicipital groove (Yergason's test positive); biceps tenosynovitis.
- Segmental innervation
- C5–C6
- In clinical practice
- Biceps provocation testing (Speed, Yergason) and rehabilitation after biceps tenodesis
- Region in the model
- Upper limb
