Ligamenta tarsometatarsalia et metatarsalia
- Origin
- Medial/intermediate/lateral cuneiforms and cuboid
- Insertion
- Bases and heads of metatarsals I–V, deep transverse metatarsal ligament, and hallucal intersesamoid ligament
- Function
- Anchors forefoot rays to the midfoot arch; deep transverse metatarsal ligament prevents forefoot splaying; intersesamoid ligament stabilizes 1st MTP sesamoid apparatus
- Innervation
- Deep fibular and lateral plantar nerves (L5–S1)
- Movement & chain
- Provides rigid central lever (rays 2–3) and mobile adaptive borders (rays 1 & 5)
- Palpation
- Palpable along dorsal TMT joint lines and plantar metatarsal heads
- Clinical
- Lisfranc injury (subtle diastasis with 'fleck sign' risking rapid arch collapse); Metatarsalgia from splayfoot; Sesamoiditis; Hallux valgus.
