Radial collateral ligament complex of the elbow (LCL / LUCL)
Ligamentum collaterale radiale cubiti (LCL-complex)
- Origin
- Lateral epicondyle of the humerus
- Insertion
- Annular ligament and supinator crest of the ulna (lateral ulnar collateral ligament - LUCL)
- Function
- Primary passive restraint against varus stress and posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI)
- Innervation
- Radial and musculocutaneous nerves (C5–C7)
- Movement & chain
- Maintains stability throughout flexion-extension arc
- Palpation
- Palpable over lateral joint line inferior to lateral epicondyle
- Clinical
- Posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI) from LUCL tear; positive lateral pivot-shift test; iatrogenic injury during lateral epicondylitis debridement.
- Segmental innervation
- C5–C7
