Segmentum posterius bulbi oculi
- Origin
- The part behind the lens: vitreous body, retina, choroid, sclera and optic disc
- Insertion
- Continues posteriorly into the optic nerve and the orbital funnel
- Function
- Captures and processes the image and passes it on through the optic nerve to the brain
- Innervation
- Retina as part of cranial nerve II; choroid autonomic via the ciliary nerves
- Movement & chain
- Follows the globe in every direction of gaze; fixation keeps the image on the fovea
- Palpation
- Fundoscopy after dilation, OCT and visual field testing
- Clinical
- Retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, papilloedema in raised intracranial pressure, macular degeneration

- Cranial nerve II
