Coracohumeral ligament
Ligamentum coracohumerale
- Origin
- Base and lateral border of the coracoid process
- Insertion
- Greater and lesser tubercles of the humerus, bridging the bicipital groove
- Function
- Suspends the adducted humeral head against gravity, limits external rotation, and stabilizes the long head of biceps within the rotator interval
- Innervation
- Suprascapular and axillary nerves
- Movement & chain
- Tensioned in arm adduction and external rotation
- Palpation
- Located deep in rotator interval, not directly palpable
- Clinical
- Contracture and thickening are hallmark MRI findings in adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), selectively restricting external rotation.
