Coracoacromial ligament
Ligamentum coracoacromiale
- Origin
- Lateral border of the coracoid process
- Insertion
- Apex and under-surface of the acromion
- Function
- Forms the coracoacromial arch (roof of shoulder joint), preventing superior dislocation of the humeral head
- Innervation
- Suprascapular nerve
- Movement & chain
- Static passive restraint protecting the subacromial space
- Palpation
- Palpable deeply anterior to the acromion tip
- Clinical
- Subacromial impingement syndrome (SAIS) due to abrasion of supraspinatus tendon; released during open/arthroscopic subacromial decompression.
- Segmental innervation
- C5–C6
