Palmar metacarpal arteries
Arteriae metacarpales palmares
- Origin
- Three to four branches arising from the deep palmar arch
- Insertion
- Descend along the interosseous spaces to anastomose with the common palmar digital arteries near digital clefts
- Function
- Supply the interosseous muscles, metacarpal bones, and connect the deep arch to the digital circulation
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor plexus
- Movement & chain
- Fixed against the interosseous fascia in the deep palm
- Palpation
- Not palpable through the thick flexor tendons and palmar aponeurosis
- Clinical
- Provide essential collateral inflow to the digits in superficial arch occlusion
- Segmental innervation
- C7–T1 roots

- Important deep landmarks during surgical drainage of deep midpalmar and thenar space infections
