Arteriae genus superiores (lateralis et medialis)
- Origin
- Arise from the proximal popliteal artery above the femoral condyles
- Insertion
- Curve around the distal femoral metaphysis to form the superior arch of the patellar arterial network
- Function
- Supply the distal femoral condyles, quadriceps tendon, patella, and superior knee joint capsule
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor fibers
- Movement & chain
- Conform tightly to the supra-condylar femoral cortex
- Palpation
- Not palpable through deep periarticular soft tissues
- Clinical
- Target vessels for Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) in symptomatic knee osteoarthritis to treat chronic hypervascular inflammation
- Segmental innervation
- L4–S1 spinal segments
