Thoracoacromial artery
Arteria thoracoacromialis
- Origin
- Arises from the second part of the axillary artery behind pectoralis minor
- Insertion
- Pierces clavipectoral fascia and divides into acromial, deltoid, pectoral, and clavicular branches
- Function
- Vascularizes deltoid, pectoralis major and minor, subclavius, and the acromioclavicular joint region
- Innervation
- Sympathetic perivascular nerves
- Movement & chain
- Radiates across the anterior chest wall and shoulder girdle
- Palpation
- Not palpable through deep muscular layers
- Clinical
- Pectoral branch serves as the critical pedicle for the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap in reconstructive surgery
- Segmental innervation
- C5–C7 roots
