Superficial external pudendal artery
Arteria pudenda externa superficialis
- Origin
- Arises from the medial aspect of the femoral artery near the saphenous opening
- Insertion
- Passes medially across the spermatic cord (or round ligament) to supply the scrotum or labium majus
- Function
- Supplies the skin of the lower abdomen, pubic region, and external genitalia (anterior scrotal/labial branches)
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor fibers
- Movement & chain
- Crosses the medial femoral triangle horizontally
- Palpation
- Not palpable through superficial groin fascia
- Clinical
- Susceptible to laceration during inguinal hernia repair and saphenofemoral junction dissection
- Segmental innervation
- L1–L2 spinal segments

- Controlled meticulously during open groin herniorrhaphy and femoral vein cannulation
