Superior ulnar collateral artery
Arteria collateralis ulnaris superior
- Origin
- Arises from the brachial artery in the middle of the arm
- Insertion
- Pierces the medial intermuscular septum to accompany the ulnar nerve behind the medial epicondyle
- Function
- Supplies the ulnar nerve and participates in the posteromedial periarticular anastomosis of the elbow
- Innervation
- Sympathetic perivascular nerves
- Movement & chain
- Courses from anterior to posterior compartment with the ulnar nerve
- Palpation
- Not palpable through deep medial arm tissues
- Clinical
- Key feeding vessel for ulnar nerve trunk; critical in preserving nerve perfusion during surgical mobilization
- Segmental innervation
- C7–T1 segments
- In clinical practice
- Preserved during anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve to avoid ischemic neuritis
