Inferior ulnar collateral artery
Arteria collateralis ulnaris inferior
- Origin
- Arises from the brachial artery approximately 5 cm proximal to the elbow crease
- Insertion
- Passes medially across brachialis anterior to the medial epicondyle to anastomose with the anterior ulnar recurrent artery
- Function
- Completes the anteromedial periarticular anastomotic ring of the elbow
- Innervation
- Sympathetic perivascular nerves
- Movement & chain
- Accommodates elbow flexion anteriorly
- Palpation
- Not palpable through deep anterior brachial fascia
- Clinical
- Collateral bypass channel across the elbow joint during distal brachial occlusion
- Segmental innervation
- C6–C8 segmental levels
- In clinical practice
- Protected during medial and anterior surgical approaches to the distal humerus
