Superficial circumflex iliac artery
Arteria circumflexa iliaca superficialis
- Origin
- Arises from the femoral artery near the saphenous opening
- Insertion
- Passes laterally parallel to the inguinal ligament toward the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
- Function
- Supplies the superficial groin tissues, subcutaneous fascia, and superficial inguinal lymph nodes
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor fibers
- Movement & chain
- Courses superficial to the fascia lata along the groin crease
- Palpation
- Not palpable through groin subcutaneous tissue
- Clinical
- Dominant vascular pedicle of the SCIP (Superficial Circumflex Iliac Perforator) flap used in supermicrosurgical reconstruction
- Segmental innervation
