- Origin
- Arises from the main pancreatic duct in the pancreatic head
- Insertion
- Opens independently into the second part of the duodenum at the minor duodenal papilla (~2 cm proximal to major papilla)
- Function
- Drains the anterosuperior portion of the pancreatic head

- Pancreas divisum: failure of dorsal and ventral pancreatic duct fusion forces the majority of pancreatic secretion through the small minor papilla, predisposing to recurrent acute pancreatitis.
