Finkelstein test
Eichhoff test
- What you examine
- De Quervain stenosing tenosynovitis.
- Procedure
- Have the patient tuck the thumb into a fist and passively bring the wrist into ulnar deviation.
- Positive when
- Sharp pain over the first extensor compartment, just proximal to the radial styloid.
- What the test is worth
- Very sensitive; tenderness exactly over the first compartment confirms the location.
- Caution
- Arthritis of the thumb base joint hurts slightly more distally and can be distinguished with a grind test.
