Venae plantares mediales
- Origin
- Arise from the plantar digital veins of the great toe and medial sole
- Insertion
- Ascend through the tarsal tunnel with the medial plantar artery to form the posterior tibial veins
- Function
- Drain deep venous blood from the medial sole of the foot
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor fibers
- Movement & chain
- Compressed during medial arch loading
- Palpation
- Not palpable through plantar fascia
- Clinical
- Plantar vein thrombosis (uncommon cause of acute plantar foot pain mimicking plantar fasciitis)
- Segmental innervation
- Plantar deep venous network

- Considered in differential diagnosis of refractory heel and arch pain
