- Arise from the deep plantar venous arch in the sole
- Insertion
- Accompany the lateral plantar artery through the tarsal tunnel to form the posterior tibial veins
- Function
- Major deep venous return channels draining the central and lateral plantar compartments
- Innervation
- Sympathetic vasomotor fibers
- Movement & chain
- Propelled by cyclical weightbearing compression
- Palpation
- Not palpable beneath the plantar musculature

- Plantar vein thrombosis following strenuous endurance running or local trauma
