Musculophrenic arteries
Arteria musculophrenica (dextra et sinistra)
- Origin
- Lateral terminal branch of the internal thoracic artery at the 6th intercostal space
- Insertion
- Runs along the costal margin, piercing the diaphragm to give anterior intercostal branches for spaces 7-9
- Function
- Supplies the anterolateral diaphragm, lower intercostal spaces, and abdominal wall musculature
- Innervation
- Intercostal nerves T7-T9
