Primary ligamentous maintainer of the lateral longitudinal arch of the foot; bridges over fibularis longus tendon to form an osteofibrous canal

Innervation

Lateral plantar nerve (S1–S2)

Movement & chain

Taut during full weight-bearing and push-off phases of gait

Palpation

Deep plantolateral midfoot, non-palpable

Clinical

Plantar midfoot strain; Cuboid syndrome (subluxation of cuboid following ankle inversion); strain in pes cavus.
