How to find it

Run your finger caudally from the jugular notch over the breastbone. After four to five centimetres you feel a transverse ridge where the manubrium meets the body.

What you use it for

The counting landmark of the chest: the second rib attaches here. From it you count all the ribs. Internally it lies at the level of the tracheal bifurcation and the lower border of T4.
