Thigh thrust
Posterior shear test
- What you examine
- Provocation of the SI joint.
- Procedure
- Supine, hip at 90 degrees of flexion and slight adduction. Apply an axial force posteriorly through the femur while supporting the sacrum with the other hand.
- Positive when
- Recognisable pain in the buttock on the tested side.
- What the test is worth
- Part of Laslett's cluster: three out of five provocation tests positive makes SI pain likely.
- Caution
- One positive provocation test says too little; the cluster is the unit of examination.
- Joint
- Sacroiliac joint
- Body region
- Pelvis
