Wrist and hand
TFCC compression test
Ulnocarpale stresstest
- What you examine
- Injury of the triangular fibrocartilage complex.
- Procedure
- Bring the wrist into maximal ulnar deviation and apply axial compression while rotating the forearm back and forth.
- Positive when
- Recognisable pain on the ulnar side of the wrist, often with a click.
- What the test is worth
- Sensitivity around 0.66 and specificity around 0.64. As with most wrist tests, the cluster with palpation and the fovea sign is stronger than the single test.
- Caution
- An ulna longer than the radius (positive ulnar variance) loads the TFCC extra and makes the test positive more often.
- Body region
- Wrist and hand
