Spine
Slump test
- What you examine
- Neurodynamic involvement of the lumbosacral nervous system.
- Procedure
- Seated: thoracic and lumbar flexion, then cervical flexion, then knee extension and ankle dorsiflexion. Then release the neck flexion.
- Positive when
- Recognisable complaints that change as soon as the neck flexion is released.
- What the test is worth
- More sensitive than the SLR, but less specific.
- Caution
- The change on releasing one component is the evidence, not the pain itself.
