- What you examine
- The SI joint as the source of the complaints.
- Procedure
- Perform five provocation tests: distraction, compression, thigh thrust, sacral thrust and Gaenslen.
- Positive when
- Three or more of the five positive, with recognisable pain.
- What the test is worth
- With three out of five positive the sensitivity is about 0.91 and the specificity about 0.78 against a diagnostic block.
- Caution
- Rule out a lumbar or radicular cause first; that makes the cluster unreliable.
