Tennis elbow test
- What you examine
- Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow).
- Procedure
- Elbow at 90 degrees of flexion, forearm pronated, hand in a fist. Ask for wrist extension against resistance while you palpate the lateral epicondyle.
- Positive when
- Pain at the level of the lateral epicondyle.
- What the test is worth
- High sensitivity; confirm with a stretch provocation (Mill test) and with tenderness over the epicondyle.
- Caution
- Pain radiating into the forearm without tenderness over the epicondyle can also come from the cervical spine.
