Pelvis
Active straight leg raise
ASLR
- What you examine
- Load transfer between trunk and leg through the pelvis, in pelvic girdle pain.
- Procedure
- Supine, legs extended. Have the patient lift one leg five centimetres and score the effort from 0 to 5. Repeat with manual compression of the pelvis.
- Positive when
- Clearly more effort or pain on one side, which decreases as soon as you compress the pelvis.
- What the test is worth
- Good reliability and a strong association with the severity of pelvic girdle pain, especially postpartum. Sensitivity around 0.87, specificity around 0.94 in that group.
- Caution
- That compression helps is immediately the treatment direction: it argues for a belt or for training the muscles that deliver the same compression actively.
- Joint
- Sacroiliac joint
- Body region
